The Red Arrows were the centre piece of an early Armed Forces Day celebration in Carrickfergus today.

Carrickfergus hosted a day-long schedule of activities including performances by a Typhoon warplane, a chance to visit a Royal Navy vessel, and a parade through the town by soldiers.

Armed Forces Day will officially take place next Saturday, June 29, but a spokeswoman for Carrickfergus Borough Council said that they had celebrated early to get as much military equipment there on the day as possible – including the Red Arrows.

Armed Forces Day is a fairly new national event, having started in 2009.
