AN offshoot of the Orange Order has also come out to condemn the abortion clinic.
The Independent Loyal Orange Institution issued a statement reading: “Marie Stopes International is notorious for its evil and repugnant practice of murdering millions of unborn children.
“As a Bible-based Christian institution we believe that only God has the right to affirm when a human life begins; Psalm 51:5 and 139:13-16, Luke chapter 1 leaves us in no doubt that human life begins at conception.
“Furthermore, these Bible references concerning life in the womb make no distinction between a supposedly impersonal foetus and a human baby.
“The introduction of such terms or distinctions to the debate has no scriptural warrant and is only an invention of sinful men to justify the killing of the unborn child.
“Marie Stopes International has a lot to say about the needs and rights of expectant mothers and claim that they are here to support them.
“They are not providing a service that is not already here.”
It called on the Assembly to introduce legislation to halt the private Marie Stopes clinic.
The organisation split from the main Orange Order in the early part of the 20th century over a political disagreement.
The Orange Order itself has not met at Grand Lodge level since the controversy began and has not issued a formal statement of its position.
Abortion is currently legal in Northern Ireland, but only where there is a grave threat to the life or health of the mother, whereas in mainland UK the law is more lax.
