Belfast’s Lord Mayor is combining his love of social media and technology with the tradition of sending seasonal greetings - by becoming the first of the city’s first citizens to email a Christmas card.

Councillor Mairtin O Muilleoir is sending a card with an image of English artist Conrad Atkinson’s ‘The Golden Fleece/The Good Shepherd’ which features a flock of sheep adorned with splashes of glitter.

Despite recent setbacks including a firebomb at a shop in Cornmarket on Monday evening and a bomb in the Cathedral Quarter on Friday, Mr O Muilleoir said he is confident Belfast will continue to move forward.

The Lord Mayor said: “When I launched my Vision for Belfast earlier this year I spoke of my commitment to ‘build the future Belfast – together’. That desire is as strong as ever.

“I am confident that the great people of Belfast will continue to work together to achieve our aim of a city making the wonderful journey from conflict to peace and helping to put our economy back on track. Belfast has a great story to tell potential investors and much to offer those already living and working here.

“I wish everyone a happy and peaceful Christmas with a timely reminder to remember those within our communities who most need our support at what, for some, is a difficult time of the year,” he said.
