The girl suffered what police described as “minor burns” to her face, while the 36 year-old male victim received burns to 10 per cent of his body, mainly on his back.

Police said members of the public had to restrain the man who threw the water at Drumlin Grange in Ballyward near Banbridge at around 7.35pm on Thursday evening, until officers arrived on the scene.

A 43 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Police said enquiries are continuing.
