A 27-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of motoring offences and assault on police following incidents in the Ferryhill Road area of Newry on Thursday night.

Police noted a silver BMW doing ‘doughnuts’ in the middle of the road at around 7.30pm and indicated for the vehicle to stop; but the vehicle’s driver made off towards the police vehicle at speed, ramming the car.

Further incidents also occurred, and by the end of it four officers, including two females, were treated in hospital for injuries.

The BMW was detected at around 10.30pm and a male was detained. The car was seized for examination.
