Man due in court after pensioner assault in Foyle

A 24 year-old was due in court on Boxing Day following the assault of a man in his 70s when a vehicle was hijacked in Londonderry on Monday night.

The pensioner was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for non life-threatening injuries after the incident at around 8.30pm in Bonds hill in Foyle.

Two men, aged 21 and 24, were later arrested.

The 21 year-old man was released on bail pending further enquiries.

The 24 year-old was due to appear at Londonderry Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with hijacking, grievous bodily harm with intent and various other motoring offences.
