A GANG of up to 20 men armed with bats and hammers were involved in an attack at a house in Antrim on Thursday evening.

Nine men aged between 21 and 48 were later arrested in connection with what police described as an agravated burglary of the home in the Ashgrove area of Antrim town.

The gang smashed through windows as they entered the property. The male resident ran from the house and escaped any injuries.

Alliance Councillor Alan Lawther has condemned the attack.

He said: “I am very concerned that such a large amount of people took part in this crime. I was appalled that so many people believed that they should take part in this attack.

“There cannot be any justification for carrying out a crime like this. I hope the police arrest and charge all those who took part in this attack.”

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
