A man who became impaled on a railing in Belfast on Wednesday evening remains in intensive care.
The man, understood to be aged around 50, is thought to have been walking along Botanic Avenue when he fell onto a railing outside a pharmacy.
Passersby stopped to help the man while waiting for the ambulance.
The man, said to have been in great pain, had to be sedated when a doctor arrived. Fire officers then used cutting equipment to free the man who received some treatment at the scene over a period of 40 minutes.
He was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital and remained critical as of Thursday afternoon.
