A man was remanded into custody on Monday accused of snatching a handbag from a pensioner who suffered a fractured shoulder.
Thomas Coleman, 22, was allegedly detained by passers-by after targeting the 84-year-old woman in Belfast city centre.
Coleman, of no fixed address, faces charges of robbery and common assault on a man at the scene on Saturday afternoon.
The elderly victim had her bag stolen in the Upper Queen Street area before witnesses chased and caught the suspected thief.
She was later taken to hospital to be treated for a fractured shoulder.
Appearing before Belfast Magistrates’ Court, Coleman spoke only to confirm he understood the charges against him.
A police constable said he could connect the accused with the alleged offences.
With no bail application made, Coleman was remanded in custody to appear again in four weeks’ time.
