A man appeared in court today accused of wielding machetes and threatening a woman in south Belfast.

Stewart Lindsay is also alleged to have inflicted grievous bodily harm on a man in the city.

The 27-year-old was arrested following an incident at Rockland Street in the Village area early on July 12.

Lindsay, of nearby Rockview Street, Belfast, faces charges of possessing offensive weapons, making a threat to kill, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and two counts of common assault.

As he appeared before Belfast Magistrates’ Court, no further details of the alleged offences were disclosed.

However, his lawyer confirmed plans to apply for bail next week.

Lindsay was remanded into custody until July 21.
