Man questioned over undercar bomb is released

A 36-year-old man arrested by detectives investigating the attempted murder of a policeman in Belfast has been released unconditionally.

The suspect was being questioned about the booby trap bomb that was left under the officer’s car in the east of the city in December.

He was arrested in west Belfast on Monday morning.

The PSNI constable was preparing to take his wife and two children out for Sunday lunch when he discovered the device under his vehicle at his home on the Upper Newtownards Road.

Senior officers have said the bomb could have killed the policeman and his family.

The failed attack, which has been blamed on dissident republicans, took place close to PSNI headquarters and the home of the Northern Ireland Assembly at Stormont.
