Police hunting for a missing Lisburn man have discovered a body.
Mark Lockhart, 39, was last seen at home in the city on Sunday night around 10.30pm.
A short time before the PSNI revealed that Mr Lockhart’s body had been recovered, a number of police search teams were involved in a major operation at Moore’s Bridge on Lisburn’s Hillsborough Road.
A number of police divers and support team vehicles were in the area around lunchtime, but it has not been confirmed if the recovery took place along this stretch of the River Lagan near Sprucefield shopping centre.
Police confirmed shortly after 4pm that their search had ended.
A PSNI spokesman said: “Formal identification has been carried out and the family of Mark have been made aware.
“A post-mortem is due to take place to determine the cause of death,” the spokesman added.
DUP councillor William Leathem said the loss of a young man in the prime of his life was “an awful tragedy”.
Cllr Leathem said his thoughts and prayers were with the Lockhart family, and added: “He was only in his late 30s so this must be a very sad time for the family.
“He was only a young man.”
