Mystery after bomb discovered in a rural Antrim village

Police are appealing for information after a pipe bomb type device was discovered in Ballycarry, close to Larne, Co Antrim.

The bomb was found in the West Street area yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

A PSNI spokesman said that shortly after 5pm police received the report of a suspicious object in an alleyway to the rear of a property in the area.

Army technical officers were tasked to the scene with dealt with the device which they declared to be “viable”.

No one was injured in this incident.

The spokesman said a motive remains under investigation.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at Larne on 0845 600 8000 or if someone would like to pass information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
