A car belonging to two elderly nuns has been attacked by nationalist youths targeting a Protestant area of west Belfast, a DUP MLA has claimed.
The vehicle, which was parked in Workman Avenue, had its rear windscreen and rear nearside windows smashed at the weekend in two separate attacks, police have confirmed.
North Belfast DUP MLA William Humphrey said that there had been minor trouble between nationalist and unionist youths at the Lanark Way/Springfield Road interface.
“This culminated in two attacks on a car parked in Workman Avenue closest to the interface gates on Friday and Sunday nights, believed to have been carried out by nationalist youths entering from the Springfield Road.
“They assume everyone living there is Protestant but these are elderly Catholic nuns. They have been living there for years and are part of the community. This is the fourth time this has happened.”
