A new governor has been appointed to Hydebank women’s prison and young offenders centre.
Paul Norbury, a governor for more than 30 years within the England and Wales prison system, will take up the two-year fixed post at the south Belfast facility in April.
He is the permanent replacement for former governor Gary Alcock, who was suspended last year after a critical report by the prisoner ombudsman. Mr Alcock has since been redeployed to another position within the prison service.
Mr Norbury was the only candidate who applied for the post, which has a salary scale of £67,983 to £72,183.
He joins Hydebank from HM Prison Wymott in Leyland, Lancashire, having previously served in establishments such as Thorn Cross young offenders centre in Cheshire, HMP Buckley Hall in greater Manchester and HMP Risley in Cheshire.
A new deputy governor has also been appointed to Hydebank. Graeme Browne has been appointed to the two-year fixed term on temporary promotion.
Mr Browne’s start date has not yet been agreed.
