A 27-year-old man arrested following a security alert in north Belfast has been released.

The man was held following a report that a device had been thrown at a civilian car which was parked in the republican Duncairn Gardens area yesterday.

The Army attended and the object was declared to be a viable pipe bomb-type device.

The man has now been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The police appealed for anyone with any information about this incident to contact them in Tennent Street on the non emergency number 101.
