The Orange Order has turned pink in its support for the Giro d’Italia – which gets underway in Northern lreland later this week.

Showing their true colours ahead of the ‘Grande Partenza’, Grand Lodge and individual lodges located along the race route have embraced the flagship sporting event.

A large banner welcoming race participants has been erected on the façade of the Institution’s temporary headquarters on the Newtownards Road in Belfast.

And bringing some distinctive sound to stage three will be the brethren of Ballyleaney Purple Star LOL 11 who will greet competitors with specially dressed ‘pink’ Lambeg drums as they pass through Richhill en route to Dublin.

Grand Master of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland, Edward Stevenson, said: “The Giro d’Italia has captured the imagination of the Ulster public and the Orange Institution, as one of the largest community organisations in the Province, is delighted to embrace this landmark sporting occasion.”
