A pensioner was assaulted with an iron bar when he answered the door of his home in Banbridge on Monday afternoon.

The victim, aged in his 70s, received medical treatment for his injuries but police said he did not have to go to hospital.

A man, thought to be in his mid to late 20s, went to the door of the house in Dickson Park at around 2.45pm and assaulted the man before making off with a sum of money.

He is described as being 5ft 9ins tall and of slim build. He was wearing a grey hooded top and black beanie hat.

Police have appealed for information.
