The PSNI yesterday confirmed that their officers are taking part in St Patrick’s Day celebrations in New York.

The clarification came after a Facebook post, claiming to be from the organisers of the parade, suggested that the PSNI officers were to have their invitation rescinded.

The post was later deleted. It has been reported that organisers had come under pressure from dissident republican groups.

This year is the first time the PSNI has been asked to take part, with six officers due to march alongside An Garda Siochana.
