Ulster and Ireland rugby star Rory Best is backing the Dickson Plan, as the debate over education here continues.
In June a proposal, known as Option A, to merge Clounagh, Killicomaine and Tandragee junior high schools into one junior college was approved by the Southern Education and Library Board.
Since then there has been much debate on the controversial issue, which some parents and teachers argue will end the Dickson Plan.
Rory Best, a former pupil of Tandragee Junior High, told a public meeting last week, organised by the Tandragee Parents Action Group, the Dickson Plan is “a great option as another route into the grammar school education”.
He told the Ulster Gazette: “Tandragee was a great school and a great stepping stone and to go from a small primary school into a massive grammar school would have been a big step, whereas Tandragee was a nice intermediary.”
