Amid the ongoing “disgust” over a planned commemoration to killer Thomas Begley, events are scheduled for the Shankill area in memory of the victims of IRA violence.
DUP councillor Brian Kingston said West Kirk Presbyterian Church is set to host a service at 12.30pm on October 23, remembering the Shankill bombing for which Begley was responsible.
He also said there will be a walk on October 22 at 6.30pm beginning at the Shankill Leisure Centre in memory of the victims of five attacks, including Begley’s bombing of Frizzell’s fish shop in 1993.
It comes as republicans are expected to hold a commemoration on Sunday to IRA man Begley, who blew himself up in the Shankill bombing.
“People are just disgusted this event is taking place,” said Cllr Kingston, adding that Begley’s actions should be a source of “shame and regret” not celebration.
