A Sinn Fein councillor on Down District Council has resigned from the party.
Mickey Coogan, 43, from Ballynahinch has been elected for the republican party since 2005, but this week resigned from it’s ranks.
Sinn Féin Chairperson of South Down Ryan Morgan said that he is sad and disappointed that Councillor Mickey Coogan has tendered his resignation.
“Mickey Coogan has served Sinn Féin since 2005 on council so I am disappointed he has decided to resign from the party,” he said.
“Despite offers from myself and other senior party colleagues to meet with Mr Coogan to discuss any difficulties he has yet to give a substantial reason why he decided to resign.”
Mr Coogan has not publicly stated his reasons for leaving.
