A SECURITY alert in Belfast on Saturday morning has forced the closure of a railway line.

Army bomb disposal officers were called to examine a suspicious object discovered in Donegall Avenue. Several homes in the area were evacuated.

A number of roads were closed for a time, as well as a railway line during the security alert.

The PSNI have also appealed for information about a viable pipe bomb device which was found on the Westlink, close to the footbridge at Roden Street on Friday night.
