Spate of attacks on Orange Halls

A SERIES of attacks on Orange Halls across the Province have been condemned by a senior member.

Grand Secretary Drew Nelson has described the recent violence as a "worrying development".

The Orange official was speaking after a 24-year-old man was arrested by police probing an attack on a hall in Ballykelly on Sunday morning.

Raiders broke into the premises and started a fire. Minor scorch damage was reported.

On Saturday, three separate incidences of sectarian graffiti were reported at halls in the Lisburn area.

Speaking in the wake of the vandalism, Mr Nelson said: "I think we're a bit surprised that five halls have now been attacked in the last five days.

"We're concerned that these attacks are continuing on Orange halls and seem to have picked up again after a number of months where there have been relatively few attacks."
