A hospital consultant has denied the manslaughter of a patient from Northern Ireland.
David Sellu, 66, a colorectal surgeon, of Hillingdon, west London, pleaded not guilty to killing James Joseph Hughes, 66, at the private Churchill Clementine Hospital in Harrow, north London, in February 2010.
Mr Hughes had travelled from his home in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, for a knee replacement, but collapsed and died a week later after complaining of stomach pains.
It is alleged that a tear in his bowel should have been treated before it turned septic and caused his death.
Sellu also pleaded not guilty to perjury alleged to have occurred at an inquest into Mr Hughes’s death.
He was remanded on bail to face trial on a date to be fixed in the autumn before Mr Justice Nicol.
