An 18-year-old girl was punched in the face last night by a man - who first attempted to kiss her.

The incident happened in the Tates Avenue area around 10pm.

A PSNI spokesman said: “It was reported that sometime around 10pm an 18-year-old female was walking along Tates Avenue when she was approached by an unknown male who attempted to kiss her before punching her in the face.

“The female suffered swelling to her forehead as a result of the incident.”

The male is described as being approximately 5ft 7ins tall and with an athletic build, short black hair and swarthy skin.

He made off in the direction of the Lisburn Road.

He was wearing a white hooded jacket, black jeans and white trainers with red flashes.

Police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information to contact them at Musgrave Police Station.

They are particularly keen to hear from a blonde haired woman who stopped with the female a short time after the incident.

Police can be contacted on the non-emergency number 101. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
