A top trade union figure has welcomed a decision to freeze the outsourcing of Belfast’s leisure centre management.

But Alison Millar, depututy general-secretary of the 46-000-strong NIPSA union, questioned the time and funding they have been given to come up with an alternative plan of action.

On Monday night, Belfast City Council agreed to offer trade unions £10,000 and six weeks for that purpose.

While pleased about the deferment, Mrs Millar said yesterday: “We’ve concerns about the amount of money being made available, and the timeframe, which is quite tight.”
