Two arrested after car fails to stop in Newtownabbey

Two people have been arrested after a car failed to stop for police in Newtownabbey on Thursday night.

The 20-year-old male and 19-year-old female were detained at the Prince Charles Way, Newtownabbey.

Shortly before 10pm it was reported that a gold Citroen Saxo had failed to stop for police and travelled towards the Manse Way area, causing damage to a barrier.

The pair made off from the car in Glade Way and were apprehended.

The female was arrested on suspicion of aggravated taking and driving away and criminal damage. She has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The male was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, driving whilst unfit, aggravated taking and driving away and failing to stop for police. He remained in custody on Friday morning.
