Two people have been been released after being questioned by police over a fatal one-vehicle road traffic collision in west Belfast.

The victim has been named by police as 19-year-old John Paul McShane who was from the west Belfast area.

The incident – involving a red coloured Peugeot 406 estate car – took place on the Upper Springfield Road shortly after 8am on Sunday.

Police closed the road between Hannahstown Hill and the Monagh bypass for much of the day while expert accident investigators forensically examined the scene.

The road was eventually re-opened to traffic around 7pm.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.

The two men, aged 20 and 21, were being questioned on suspicion of a number of motoring offences.

As of Monday morning, they were released on police bail pending further enquiries.
