Two teenagers have been charged after a police helicopter was used to track a stolen car in west Belfast.

A stinger device was eventually used to stop the Volkswagen Golf in the Suffolk Road area on Saturday.

Four occupants of the car made off on foot but were detained by police a short time later. A police dog was also deployed.

A 17-year-old male has been charged with handling stolen goods, while a 16-year-old male has been charged with aggravated vehicle theft, handling stolen goods and other motoring offences.

They are both due to appear before magistrates in Belfast on Monday.

Two other youths, aged 13 and 15, have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

One police officer involved in the arrests suffered a shoulder injury and required hospital treatment.
