POLITICIANS used their pedal power as they launched Bike Week at Parliament Buildings in Belfast.

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy praised the efforts of his MLA colleagues, who he said were helping to encourage the public to take up cycling. “This year we have a really exciting line-up of cycling activities including Bike to School Day on June 20 and Bike to Work Day on June 22 when all participants can enjoy a complimentary breakfast at the City Hall,” said Mr Kennedy.

“This cycling celebration is the perfect opportunity for the public to dust down their bikes, pump up their tyres and give cycling a go.

“Sustainable travel is climbing the political agenda and the turnout at the Stormont Bike Ride is testament to the importance of this issue.”

Local councils, employers, schools and cycling organisations have organised a wide variety of cycling events for public participation.
