Ulster road racer killed at Manx Grand Prix

A 39-year-old from Co Antrim has been killed during a qualifying session at the 2014 Manx Grand Prix.

A statement on the Manx Motor Cycle Club website named the racer as Stephen McIlvenna from Randalstown.

The statement said he was killed during Tuesday evening’s qualifying session on the Isle of Man in an incident at the Mountain Mile.

“McIlvenna was an experienced racer who first competed in the Manx Grand Prix in 2005,” said the statement.

“He won the 2009 Junior Manx Grand Prix. He also competed in the TT Races in 2010.

“The Manx Motor Cycle Club wish to pass on their deepest sympathy to Stephen’s family and friends.

“The Coroner of Inquests has been informed and an investigation into the circumstances of the accident is underway.”
