Victims are ‘first priority’ says Villiers after Kinsmills meeting cancelled

Theresa Villiers has said victims are her “first priority” following the deferment of a meeting yesterday with relatives of those killed in the Kingsmills massacre.

After victims’ campaigner Willie Frazer complained that this was the fourth time such a meeting had been cancelled, the Northern Ireland Office (NIO) yesterday said the previous three occasions “were in fact cancelled by Mr [Danny] Kennedy (the MLA facilitating the meeting) and not the Secretary of State”.

Yesterday’s cancellation was due to Parliamentary business and the NIO said: “She hopes she can meet them soon.”

Mr Kennedy could not recall precise details of previous diary clashes, but said “what’s important is the meeting takes place as quickly as possible”.
