A student is in a critical condition in hospital following a stabbing incident inside the Belfast Metropolitan College building at Millfield.
Another student has been detained by police following treatment for injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
Eyewitnesses have been describing the aftermath.
Maria McCann was in the building and described “a lot of screaming” close to the toilets where the incident is understood to have taken place shortly after 11am on Thursday.
She said she was “terrified”.
“I was walking into the second building....one boy ran past who had blood all over his hands, all over his, clothes and he ran into the corridor and straight outside into the main car park.
“At that stage I was looking out the window and security were there trying to restrain the boy,” she added.
Students affected by the incident say they have already been offered counselling by the college.
