An appeal has been issued to reunite an exotic animal found in Lurgan with its owner.

The raccoon dog, indigenous to East Asia, was found in the Lough Road area on Monday.

The person who found it said: “I opened a big metal bin to put some rubbish in and I saw it.

“At first I thought it was a cat, then a raccoon. After a bit of research I found out it was a raccoon dog, which isn’t related to the raccoon family although it looks like one.

“I’ve been trying for the past couple of days to find an animal shelter who would take it in. I wouldn’t have the facilities to look after it myself.

“There can’t be too many of them about so hopefully the owner can be located.”

If you are the owner of the raccoon dog, get in touch with the Lurgan Mail on 3832 7777 and leave your contact details.
