A Belfast City council committee has voted to outsource the management of its leisure centres.
Councillors voted today to put the management of the centres under the control of an independent not-for-profit body.
There was a union protest outside City Hall this morning by council employees concerned about their job security.
Union officials say they are concerned what the changes could mean for their members’ terms and conditions.
But DUP councillor Gavin Robinson told the News Letter after the vote that all employee rights would be protected as they are transferred across to the new body.
The decision has yet to be ratified by the full council, which will consider the recommendation at its next full meeting.
