Two eight-year-old children were lucky to escape uninjured after finding a stun gun in a hedge, police have said.

The object, later confirmed to be a rechargable stun gun, was lying under a hedge in the Mourne Road area of Lurgan.

After finding it the children, both aged eight, picked it up and played with it before an adult removed it from them and contacted police.

Constable Clements, from Craigavon Response, said: “Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident however the outcome could have been very different. I would strongly advise any member of the public who comes across an unknown object to notify police immediately so that we can ensure their safety.

“I would also ask parents to speak to their children and make them aware that they should not touch any item which they cannot identify.

“Anyone who would like further advice or has information in relation to the stun gun can contact police in Lurgan on 0845 600 8000.”

The gun was later disposed of.
