A young Belfast boy who took the Twittersphere by storm after his family used it as a forum to fundraise for cancer treatment has been given the all-clear.

Oscar Knox, who has become affectionately known as Wee Oscar, was told he was free from Neuroblastoma on Monday, and his family soon tweeted the good news to his 32,062 followers.

They said: “Today we got the most unbelievable news, NO cancer can be found in Oscar’s body. HE DID IT!!!! #TeamOscar #allclear”.

Oscar’s parents Stephen and Leona have used Twitter to publicise Oscar’s experience with the devastating illness, and received support from Northern Ireland and beyond since his diagnosis in November 2011.

Within an hour of the tweet being posted on Monday afternoon it had been retweeted more than 2,000 times.

Celtic footballer Joe Ledley tweeted: “fantastic news mate!!! Very proud of you.”

Restaurateur Michael Deane responded to the tweet with: “There are no words to describe you guys!”
