Northern Ireland cyclists Michael Hutchinson and Marcus Christie finished 12th and 13th respectively in the men’s individual time trial.
Hutchinson had twice previously finished fourth at the Commonwealth Games in this event – in 2006 and 2010.
England’s Alex Dowsett and New Zealand’s Linda Villumsen claimed Commonwealth Games gold in the men’s and women’s cycling road time-trial events on Thursday.
Dowsett, silver medallist four years ago in Delhi, came from behind to complete the 38.4-kilometre route in 47 minutes and 41.78 seconds ahead of Australia’s Rohan Dennis and Wales’ Geraint Thomas.
Villumsen was victorious in the women’s race in a time of 42:25.46 - six seconds faster than England’s Emma Pooley, who will retire after Sunday’s road race, and Katrin Garfoot of Australia.
“It’s a bit of a smack in the confidence when you think you can win and you finish second, third or fourth,” Villumsen said. “So when you see your name with ‘1’ next to it, you can’t quite believe it. It’s amazing.”
