It was always going to be a tough test coming up against the World Number Three.

The Jamaican ‘Sunshine Girls’ edged ahead quarter after quarter finishing with a convincing win of 65–34.

The opening quarter started with Northern Ireland much more settled than their opening quarter against Malawi on the previous day.

Coach Kate Carpenter included Hannah Willis at wing attack, and with a focus on trying to combat the incredible height of the Jamaican team, both Northern Irish six footers Noleen Lennon and Lisa Sommerville starting at either end.

Northern Ireland now go into a rest day on Day 3 before meeting World number 2 New Zealand on Sunday evening.

The New Zealand Silver Ferns will no doubt go into that game still reeling from their poor performance today against Malawi only clinching that match by three goals.

Northern Ireland can expect the Silver Ferns to bring their ‘A’ game on Sunday with the NZ players fiercely contesting for positions ahead of next week’s finals.

Northern Ireland will be more focused on their crucial match on Monday against St Lucia which now becomes a must win game after rivals Scotland easily cruised past St Lucia earlier on Friday.
