The candidate is Charlie Chittick, a former DUP councillor.

Though the party fielded a council candidate in Castlederg (Robert Oliver) in the last local election, this is the first time it has fielded one for the Assembly.

According to the TUV, Mr Chittick was a part-time UDR soldier and has worked throughout his career as a telecommunications engineer.

It said: “A committed Christian and member of the loyal Orders, he also serves as treasurer of his local Credit Union.”

The party added he had left the DUP “due to its present policies and conduct”.
