Unionist unity wins back seats from non unionists

When I was a member of the Ulster Unionist Party and resident in the Province, I always voted for all unionists down any PR ballot.

I did so in order to maximise the number of unionists who would be elected.

That’s why I find the remarks of the UUP’s Doug Beattie, that he would not give a preference to the DUP, so stupid and blinkered.

Are people like Mr Beattie also incapable of doing basic maths? Thanks to unionists working together last year, two Parliamentary seats were won back from non-unionists. After years of destructive in-fighting, most unionists now understand that they need to pull together.

Doug Beattie should reflect that it might be DUP transfers that decide whether or not he is elected in May.
