Ulster Unionist Assembly candidate, Danny Kennedy has said he will be advising his supporters to give their second preference vote to the only other unionist candidate standing in the constituency of Newry & Armagh.

It comes after his party leader, Mike Nesbitt yesterday said that after voting for his own party in the upcoming election he will transfer to the SDLP ahead of other unionist candidates, triggering strong criticism from the DUP and TUV.

But Mr Kennedy said he believed it was important to protect the two pro-Union seats in the constituency.

He confirmed that this advice would be included in the election postal communication being sent by him to every household in the constituency in advance of the election.
