Why thousands are leaving Orange Order

I READ the News Letter articles in which the Grand Secretary, Drew Nelson, was interviewed on a number of issues within the Orange Institution.

As an Orangeman and one who upholds the Christian values of the Institution, I was disappointed but not surprised to see that nothing was said on the Institution being based on the Protestant faith and anchored on Biblical principles.

We have been told that the Orange Institution is down to 34,000 members. Does that not tell you everything you need to know?

I believe it is compromise and liberal views which are destroying the Orange Order.

Thousands of good men have left the Order because of what is happening today.

We need to get back to our founding principles within Orangeism. What is needed in the Order today is for Christian men to stand up and take their stand for Christ and to uphold the reformed faith within the Institution.

If that doesn’t happen, then we will see a more liberal and compromising agenda taking place which will destroy the Orange Institution and see it fall to even lower numbers.

It is sad to see liberal Orangemen and even Christians within it saying that an apology from IRA/Sinn Fein would be enough for what they have done on the Protestant Orange family.

We also have others going to the Roman Catholic Mass, betraying the qualifications of an Orangeman.

The Orange Order needs to stand up for Protestantism and that will bring back many into its ranks.
