Gunpowder script lacked balance
The central objective in this historical event was the killing of a king, because he was a Protestant.
The gruesome killings portrayed in the drama are a mirror image of what Protestants suffered when Queen Mary (‘bloody Mary’) persecuted Protestants, 1553 to 1558.

The BBC have purposely portrayed the main Protestant characters as being unattractive in manner and appearance, whereas the Catholic leader of ‘the plot’ is presented in a positive manner.
Ronan Bennett’s script lacks the balance required for such a production.
