Healing rifts within unionism

THE almost half a million men and women who signed the Ulster Covenant in 1912 saw their combined effort as a necessary unity to challenge a Home Rule Bill.

It is my view today that most of the unionist electorate are tired of the disunity in the unionist sector and what seems to have degenerated into power struggles that can be viewed by onlookers as influenced by personal ambition.

Any attempt to heal rifts should be encouraged so that the best expression of unity as embraced within the title of unionist can be achieved.
