It’s encouraging to see a Presbyterian move beyond the Pale and join the rest of us in the 21st century.
Lesley Carroll’s embracement of her Christian values of brotherly love, to dare to consider legalising gay marriage is to be commended.
If one person truly loves another who are we to deny that relationship the sanctity and stability of marriage?
To further consider that the law here on abortion should come closer to the rest of the UK is a sign of true leadership. Equality for all and justice for all should be our bywords.
Being pro choice does not mean being pro abortion. It means we should all be treated equally under the law.
There is one more injustice that has been visited upon the people and the island of Ireland and that’s Partition. I wonder will I or Lesley live to see the day when once again Catholic, Protestant and Dissenter, Gay Rights, Women’s Rights and the right of national self determination for the Irish people realign?
It’s important that all injustices in society are remedied and all the sons and daughters of the nation are cherished equally regardless of race ethnicity colour creed or sexual orientation.
I stand in solidarity with women’s rights. I stand by the Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender gender communities and I stand by Lesley Carroll.
I welcome her bravery at opening the dialogue within her church on some of these topics.
