Unionists have had their own state

Gregory Campbell (March 24) stated, 'Catholic and Protestant working-class communities faced the same disadvantage, the same discrimination and the same lack of opportunities.'

The crucial difference is that for almost 100 years Protestant unionist people have had their own state and their national freedom as British subjects under British sovereignty in this so-called part of the United Kingdom.

At the same time they have denied ‘minority’ Irish people in Northern Ireland their right to national freedom as part of the sovereign Irish nation.
