BROLLIES were in full display as wet conditions put a dampener on the annual Opera in the Gardens in Belfast.
Mozart`s classic opera The Marriage of Figaro was beamed live from Covent Garden`s Royal Opera House to a big screen in Botanic Gardens on Wednesday evening.

Despite the weather, the oasis of music lifted the spirits of observers at the free event as they braved the elements.

Many brought their own picnics as they enjoyed the famous story of class struggle and infidelity.

Pre-opera entertainment was provided by John Anderson's choir Voices of Ireland.

The event was organised by Belfast City Council and is part of the BP Big Summer Screens Programme 2008.
