NORTHERN Ireland's A-level students have again out-performed their fellows in England and Wales, ending the agonising wait for around 10,000 university hopefuls.
The results showed that more than 92 per cent of exam candidates passed with a stunning 35.4 per cent getting an A grade- a jump of 2.2 per cent on last year.

This compared to a national A average of 25.9 per cent, meaning Northern Ireland's smartest students are almost 10 per cent above their competitors across the water.

At Methody College in south Belfast, pupils Stacie Novotny and Rory Murphy told the News Letter website of their delight at attaining straight 'A' grades.

Both are now hopeful of securing places at Trinity College in Dublin.
